Mr. Debak Mabior Arok, the Deputy Chairperson of the South Sudan Civil Society Alliance, embarked on a mission to the Ruang Administrative Area, Pariang, with the noble purpose of empowering women leaders. The two-day workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of women leaders in Ruang, focusing on various important aspects of gender equality and political participation.

One of the primary objectives of the workshop was to raise awareness about the General Election Act 2012 as amended in 2023, ensuring that women leaders are well-informed about their rights and responsibilities in the electoral process. Additionally, the workshop sought to develop concepts and strategies to increase the involvement of women in elections, as well as discuss policy options for enhancing women’s participation in political parties during elections.

Moreover, the workshop highlighted the importance of women’s engagement in the constitution-making process. By creating awareness about the gender aspects of women’s participation, the aim was to ensure that women have a strong voice in shaping the future of their country. Strategies were discussed to empower women to actively contribute to the constitution-making process and promote the protection of human rights within the framework of the constitution.

Mr. Debak Mabior Arok emphasized the significance of enhancing women’s capacity, especially those involved in public life and political parties, through affirmative action. The workshop also focused on providing women leaders with comprehensive knowledge about the election process, their rights, and the promotion of human rights protections during constitution-making.
